Matthew Lutz, Founder

Hi, my name is Matthew. I’m a 14-year-old high school athlete living in Minnesota, chasing my soccer dreams. Sports have always been a huge part of my life, shaping who I am and teaching me lessons like commitment, leadership, and resilience. But I’ve also seen firsthand how rising costs are making it harder for kids to play the sports they love.

Between team fees, uniforms, equipment, and travel, the price of participation adds up quickly. For some families, it’s just not possible. I believe sports should be something every kid gets to experience, that’s why I started Playfundr.

Playfundr helps kids stay in the game. We collect quality used and unused sports gear—stuff sitting in closets, tucked under beds, or boxed away in garages, and give it a second life. We resell the gear at affordable prices, making it accessible to all athletes, while also reducing waste. Then, we use those funds to provide micro-grants to kids who need help covering costs like team fees, uniforms, and equipment. The goal is simple: every kid should get the chance to play.

Sports aren’t just about winning. They build confidence, create friendships, and open doors to opportunities kids might not find anywhere else. I know how much soccer has shaped me, and I want more kids to have that same chance.

I’m just a high school kid starting small, but with the support of the community, I believe Playfundr can grow into something more. This is about giving kids the chance to play, grow, and belong. Every kid deserves that shot.
